Tax identification number (Codice Fiscale)

The Italian tax identification number, officially known in Italy as “Codice Fiscale”, is an alphanumeric code of 16 characters used to identify unambiguously individuals or companies in Italy irrespective of their residency status. It is now mainly used to uniquely identify individuals in the health system or as parties in private contracts.

In Hong Kong and Macao, you can apply for the Italian tax identification numberor its certificate with barcode for online transactions by booking an appointment on Prenot@mi for “consular services”.

On the day of the appointment, the applicant or his/her delegate (if he/she is unable to come in person) must come to the consular counter in person (or delegate someone with the original and copy of the passport, main page with photo only) and the tax identification number application form (completed as per instructions).
