Fiscal Code (Codice Fiscale)

The Italian Fiscal Code, officially known as Italy’s Codice Fiscale, is an alphanumeric code of 16 characters used to identify unambiguously individuals or companies in Italy irrespective of their residency status. It is now mainly used to uniquely identify individuals in the health system or as parties in private contracts.

In Hong Kong and Macao, you can apply for the Italian fiscal code or its certificate with barcode for online transactions by booking an appointment on Prenot@mi for “consular services”.

On the day of the appointment, the applicant or his/her delegate (if he/she is unable to come in person) must come to the consular counter in person (or delegate someone with the original and copy of the passport, main page with photo only) and the fiscal code application form (completed as per instructions).

For further information please consult the website of the Italian Revenue Agency.
