Consul General, Carmelo Ficarra

Born in Messina on 20 March 1976 where he obtained his classical high school diploma.

March 1999 – Degree in Political Science at the LUISS “Guido Carli” University, Rome

June 2000 – Master’s Degree in European Studies at the College of Europe, Natolin Campus (Poland)

Career diplomat since 2002, in the first years of service he was assigned to the Directorate General for the Mediterranean and Middle East of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

From 2004 to 2007 he served at the Embassy of Italy in Baghdad, first as Head of the Special Diplomatic Delegation and later as Second Secretary

From 2007 to 2013 he served at the Embassy of Italy in Moscow as First Commercial Secretary

From 2013 to 2016 he served, on extended mission, at the Embassy of Italy in Baghdad, as Head of the Detached Office in Erbil (Autonomous Region of Iraqi Kurdistan)

From 2016 to 2020 he served at the Embassy of Italy in Tehran as Head of the Economic and Commercial Office

From 2020 to 2022 he served at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation as Head of Office, responsible for the organisation of international events and interpretation services, at the Diplomatic Ceremonial of the Republic.

Since 1 September 2022, he has been the Consul General of Italy in Hong Kong and Macao.
