Message from the Consul General of Italy in Hong Kong and Macao, Francesco Paolo Cannito
Hong Kong, 19th October 2026
It is with great honor and a deep sense of responsibility that I begin today my mandate as Consul General of Italy in the Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions (SARs).
First and foremost, I wish to extend my greetings to the Italian community in Hong Kong and Macao, whose members work every day with great dedication to promote the image of a modern Italy and contribute to strengthening our relations at every level.
I would also like to extend my greetings to the Authorities and local communities of the two SARs. Together, we will continue to cooperate in the traditional areas that characterize our bilateral relations, while seeking new opportunities to carry out the “growth diplomacy”.
Thanks to the dynamism of all the organizations and institutions that make up the “Sistema Italia” in Hong Kong and Macao, including the Italian Trade Agency (ITA), the Chamber of Commerce and its members, whom I thank for their welcome, we will continue – also in coordination with the Embassy of Italy in Beijing – to make our bilateral ties advance in the fields of trade and investment, tourism, science, university and research.
In close cooperation with the Italian Cultural Institute and all other associations, we will be committed to developing initiatives and events aimed at further spreading our culture and the Italian language, showcasing our unique arts and musical heritage and celebrating Italy’s excellence in sports, as well as the richness and diversity of our regions.
I am confident that, together, we will be able to communicate and value Italian traditions and history, bring greater visibility to our extraordinary creativity and highlight the cutting-edge nature of our industrial and technological districts.
We are proud to serve a hardworking, skilled and vibrant community.
Together with Consul Giulio Gubert and the entire team at the Consulate General, we will strive to serve to the best of our ability, working to further enhance our consular and visa services and make them even faster and more efficient. Your suggestions will surely help us improve our work.
