The sixth tour of Teatro alla Scala Ballet in China kicked off with performances in Hong Kong. From 15 to 17 March, the La Scala ballet company performs at the Grand Theatre of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, with ‘Le Corsaire‘ by Manuel Legris, as part of the 52nd Hong Kong Arts Festival. Teatro alla Scala Ballet returns to Hong Kong after 10 years since its last performance in 2014. Étoile Nicoletta Manni and Alice Mariani star as Medora, while Timofej Andrijashenko and Mattia Semperboni play Conrad. Maestro Valery Ovsyanikov conducts the Hankyung arte Philharmonic. Young students from Jean M. Wong School of Ballet in Hong Kong also take part in the performance. Teatro alla Scala Ballet will continue its Asian tour by performing at the Grand Theatre in Shanghai from 21 to 24 March with the opera Giselle. The Ambassador of Italy to the People’s Republic of China Massimo Ambrosetti, who attended the Hong Kong premiere, hailed the important cultural event as a further manifestation of the solidity of cultural relation between Italy and China in 2024 – a year that is of particular relevance to Sino-Italian collaboration, in the wake of the important 700th anniversary of the death of Marco Polo and the 20th anniversary of the Global Strategic Partnership.
