Michele De Lucchi · Lecture “Inequalities. Design for a better life”

Date: 11 February 2025
Time: 17:30-18:30
Venue: TU101, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, 11 Yuk Choi Road, Hung Hom, Hong Kong

Diversities – Differences – Identities – Inequalities – Distances: it is the package of human misunderstandings. Diversities generate differences, differences define identities, identities can lead to inequalities, which create physical, social, and cultural distances. For Michele De Lucchi, only a dynamic balance can address human complexities. He expresses this with the equation A = EI(q), where architecture is an environmental installation multiplied by the unknown q, which represents the context, needs, relationships, and specific challenges of each project, in order to transform differences into an opportunity to unite rather than divide.

Curiosity is the engine of human evolution. We explore the unknown, develop new ideas, and constantly redefine the boundaries of knowledge. Curiosity is also crucial in design: for Michele De Lucchi, it is an essential ingredient that fuels his research and experimentation, leading him to always create something new.
