“Youth4Climate: Powering Action” – Initiative led by Italy and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP)

iconaItaly and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) will host the “YOUTH4CLIMATE: POWERING ACTION” hybrid event in New York on 20 September, during the 77th United Nations General Assembly, with more than 150 young people from all over the world expected to attend in person.

The initiative ideally follows the international meeting “YOUTH4CLIMATE: DRIVING AMBITION” held in 2021 in Milan on the occasion of PreCOP, as part of the partnership agreement with the United Kingdom for the COP26 Presidency. On that occasion, more than 400 young people actively participated in debates and took action on some of the most urgent issues related to the climate crisis. The results of the meetings and the proposals that emerged were fed into a powerful and ambitiuos document, the ‘Youth4Climate Manifesto’, which was officially presented later at COP26.

The success of the international meeting in Milan has made “YOUTH4CLIMATE” a global initiative, led by the Italy-United Nations Development Program (UNDP) partnership, with a long-term strategic vision aimed at:

  • promoting climate action and sustainable development through the identification and support of concrete, innovative, youth-led solutions, starting with those contained in the Manifesto;
  • allowing the sharing of knowledge, opportunities, training, experiences, and resources (dedicated spaces, funding, showcases) through a custom-made virtual space where young people can cultivate a rich community and a multi-stakeholder perspective of the climate crisis;
  • fostering the development of inclusive, sustainable climate solutions by drawing fully on the plurality of skills and experiences of the world’s most vulnerable and indigenous communities at the national, regional, and multilateral levels.
