URGENT MEASURES TO COMBAT AND CONTAIN THE CORONAVIRUS IN ITALY

Please note that by Prime Minister's Decree [link], the following measures are effective in Italy until April 3rd, 2020:

 

  • inbound/outbound as well as internal travels are permitted only for documented reasons of emergency, health or work;

 

  • Italian citizens residing abroad and foreign nationals traveling to Italy for other purposes are allowed to leave the country;

 

  • gatherings in spaces open to the public are forbidden in the whole country. Sport competitions are allowed only without any audience;

 

  • All commercial activities will remain closed except for those providing essential services (for example supermarkets, banks, pharmacies) - by Prime Minister’s Decree approved on March 12th and valid until March 25th

 

  • Schools, universities, museums and cultural centres are closed.

All foreign nationals traveling to Italy will have to abide by the above restrictions. They can only travel to Italy and within Italy for documented reasons of emergency, health or work.

Upon their arrival in Italy, visitors who in the last 14 days have been to China (Hong Kong and Macao included) must report to the Health Bureau of the area which he/she is visiting ("ASL"). The Local Health bureau will impose a monitored self-isolation regime at home or in hotel (with active monitoring by the same bureau) or alternative measures of equal force.

 UPDATE ON THE MANDATORY QUARANTINE
March 11th - 10.10 a.m.

Upon the official request of the interested countries, the Hong Kong Government has postponed by 1 day the entry into force of the travel alert regarding the mandatory quarantine for travellers coming from Italy. Therefore, the entry into force will start on the midnight of Saturday, 14 March (duringthe night between Friday 13th March and Saturday 14th March).

The Hong Kong Government has informed the Consulate General of Italy that, starting from the midnight of Friday 13th March(during the night between Thursday 12th March and Friday 13th March), all travelers arriving in Hong Kong who have been to Italy (regardless of the region visited) in the previous 14 days from their arrival in Hong Kong will be placed in a mandatory 14-day quarantine in the quarantine centers set up by the Government.

The quarantine will be applied without any exception to resident or non-resident in Hong Kong regardless of their nationality. It will not be allowed to self-isolate at home or in the hotel.

The mandatory 14-day quarantine in the quarantine centers set up by the Government has been already into force, since March 1st, for all travelers, resident or non-resident in Hong Kong, who have been to the Italian Regions of Lombardy, Veneto and Emilia Romagna in the previous 14 days from their arrival in Hong Kong
