Every year on 8 August, Italy marks the \u201cNational Day of Italian Labour Sacrifices in the World\u201d, a solemn occasion dedicated to honouring and acknowledging the labour and sacrifice of the many compatriots who have emigrated abroad.<\/p>\n

The commemoration coincides with the anniversary of the Marcinelle mine disaster in 1956, Belgium, in which 262 miners \u2014 including 136 Italians \u2014 tragically lost their lives in the Bois du Cazier mine.<\/p>\n

On the occasion of this 69th anniversary, the Honourable Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has addressed a message to Italian citizens residing abroad.
